August 3, Day 3 -- Keeping the Pace

I had the day off and managed to nearly fill it up with busy-ness: a trip to the bank, shopping Ben Franklin's going-out-of-business sale, a doctor's appointment, having my nails done, getting Scrapings run off, buying stamps, buying envelopes, stopping at DQ for a little refreshment, watering the garden. Finally at 6 PM I could put it off no longer. I sat at my desk and did a little filing, tidied up the area, then I got out my Alphasmart and started typing. I promised myself that I could have a tangerine popsicle once I'd reached 1000 words. It took forever! But just after 7 PM I got my treat. Then I took Alphie out onto the patio to see if writing outside would help, but the neighbor was cutting cement with a saw, filling the air with noise and dust. Ugh. Back inside to settle back in the corner of my room. It was after 8 o'clock when I got over the magic number, finished the thought, and closed up for the night. I learned a lesson--I have an easier time if I write a bit, take a break to do a chore, write a bit, knit a bit, write some more, watch TV or read, write, etc. instead of trying to do it all in one swell foop.
