Blogtoberfest

Have you noticed the button over on the left there?  I signed up to do Blogtoberfest, a challenge to blog every day in October, once again, since I post daily anyway and this way maybe I'll attract a new reader or two.  (I dream of spreading my own personal brand of insanity world wide) Click on the button to go to the organizer's blog where the blogroll is and check out some of the other blogs.  Many are in Australia because that's where Blogtoberfest started and it's fun to see what other people talk about.  My pal Skully and I braved the 30 mph wind and 40 degree temp to walk along Baird Creek.  It's a whole lot less travelled than our usual river walk so we run much less risk of getting mowed down by cyclists and joggers, and it's just gorgeous this time of year.  Today's Photo a Day theme is "shadow" so I waited to take one when we were walking.  Here's our shadows on the path.  See how tall we look?  Yeah, we're not that tall, not that slender either, I think this is an excellent shadow picture.  When I got home I went out in the backyard to pick anything we think might be hurt by the frost they're predicting for maybe tonight and for sure tomorrow.  We have a lot of spaghetti squash (8, in fact) some of which are way too big but that's how they grew.  Durwood's already planning to make some spaghetti sauce this next week or maybe tomorrow so we can cook some and use it like spaghetti noodles.  (do you think I said spaghetti too many times in the last 2 sentences?  me neither.)  Once I run to the grocery for provolone so Durwood can make sauteed scallops for supper I can get downstairs and fire up the sewing machine.  I didn't manage to get the September quilt blocks made and now there are the October ones too so that's what I'd like to accomplish this weekend.  We have to go to a memorial tomorrow afternoon so that'll cut into my sewing time, although I was supposed to have a haircut on Sunday morning (which I so can't wait for, my hair's driving me nuts) but I got an email from Carla and she has to reschedule.  Her next GB haircutting day is October 21 but we have to be out of town that day, so I get to wait another 4 weeks before I get it cut.  Yikes.  Good thing I have headbands to keep it off my face and gel and hairspray to try to tame it.  I sure do wish I had the hairdo gene so I could do something other than comb and goop it.

October 5--Washington Allston, The Spanish Girl in Reverie.  Kate watched her from the dining room window.  Lita sat on the garden wall holding a bouquet of herbs she had picked from the garden.  The autumn wind tugged at Lita's hair and swirled leaves at her feet but she paid no attention.  She wore her sadness like a cloak she was reluctant to take off.  Kate's hand went to the window latch so she could raise the window to talk to Lita but she stopped when Lita twisted the herbs and tore them in half and then flung them to the ground.

I don't know what that means.  I wonder which herbs she was holding.  Gotta go get cheese.
