A Better Night's Sleep

Or maybe I should have put "No Backache When I Wake Up" as the subject of this post.  Today, later than promised (of course), the Mattress Firm guys came and took away our old mattress and delivered a new one.  It's hard to see in the picture but there was a definite ridge down the center of the bed.  It felt like a bundling board in the middle of our bed keeping each of us on our own side.  No more!  See how flat the new mattress is?  Before I even got sheets on it Durwood took a practice nap and pronounced it comfortable.  But then with all the years he traveled all over Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan he can pretty much sleep anywhere on anything.  I'll tell you, I'm really looking forward to sleeping on a new, firm, FLAT bed tonight.

I finished another preemie hat last night.  I love this yarn colorway but this particular ball was made up of 3 shorter lengths of yarn so in that tiny hat (it fits on an orange) I had 6 ends to weave in.  Not fair.

No other knitting progress has been made.  I spent the day reading and basking in the spring weather on the patio ignoring any and all chores.  It was the perfect way to spend my day off.

June 2--Tom Bean, Kaibab National Forest, AZ.  Can't see the forest for the trees, Cassie thought and she giggled.  Can't see the forest because there are no trees or damn few anyway.  Whoever named this piece of empty nothing a National Forest must have sprinkled some loco weed on his oatmeal.  Probably some bored cubicle drone in the U.S. Office of Screwing Up Maps thought, well, there's mountains out there, there are probably trees too, let's make it a National Forest.  Nobody came to look, they just sent out a ranger with a flat hat and a couple brown signs to stick in ground.  Who cared if it was a flat, rocky patch of nothing special. The map guy says it's a National Forest then, by god, it's a National Forest.  Without trees.  She kept driving.

I'm happy to report that my fingertips have almost stopped hurting but my nails are still so thin that they snag and break over the smallest things, and I'm so used to using my strong gel nails for all sorts of things that I feel like I'm rehabbing after a mild stroke.  Stupid vanity.  I'm going to go knit.

There's something so pristine about that wonderful flat new mattress. Hope you slept like a baby on it!
