Chubby Cheeks

I was watching the Starlings and their fledglings in the backyard. The fledglings follow the adults around squawking and fluttering and the adults, which are the same size as the "babies," scurry around and feed them. But every time I picked up the camera they all scattered. So you get to see this chipmunk that was poking around in the grass under the platform feeder and filling its cheek pouches.

The female Oriole was back for a jelly snack and I caught her dipping her beak in the sticky stuff. I wonder if her tongue reaches the edges of her beak to lick off what's stuck there.

I spent a lot of the day transferring the Kindle edits from the paper to the manuscript on the computer. There's about a half of the manuscript left to be edited that way, then I can start on another read-through. I love doing an edit this way. Like I've said before, transferring it to Kindle by email and then reading it like a book really gives me a good look at the story. I had a couple ideas for Book 4 of The Seaview Series too so I got those entered before I forgot them. Maybe I'll keep making notes and use NaNoWriMo to write the first draft of the manuscript in November. That's how I get a lot of my books started. Works for me.

Today's drawing prompt was Windows & Doors so I drew the patio door which is both. I thought about drawing the bird feeders out the window but I had an upcoming Zoom and ran out of time.

Speaking of Zoom, at Friday Night Knitting I worked on the Alpaca Man Hat. I thought it'd look different since it's one round of knit 1, purl 1 rib and then one round of knitting every stitch. But this is how it's turning out. I need to knit it to seven inches before tackling the crown decreases. At the rate I'm going it'll take me a while. In three hours, I added a couple inches. I'm not in a hurry. We won't ever go back to knitting in person on Friday nights because while two of us are in Green Bay, the other two are in West Sacramento, California. Too far to drive for knitting night.

I got a phone call around lunchtime today and MW, a knitting pal, asked about my new book and where could he get one. "Right here," I said. So he stopped over, picked one up, and paid for it. Tomorrow I've got a book signing in Sturgeon Bay from 10-2. I hope at least one person stops and buys a book. Fingers crossed.

Today's oriole looks angry somehow. Maybe the grape jelly isn't to her liking if it's too sticky.
