I thought that it was dreary all day until I started looking at the pictures I took this morning. The sun was shining! How about that? Now I'm trying to remember if it was sunny when I drove across town to get a haircut or if it was overcast and dreary already. I don't remember. Anyway, the House Finch female was having a nice nibble of the orange half. She's very energetic pecking at the flesh of the orange and then gulping down what she gets.
I don't know what it is about Gray Catbirds that appeals to me so much. Maybe it's the smooth gray feathers with the black cap. Or maybe it's their habit of standing with their tail cocked up. I captured this one on the edge of the birdbath and then it went over to the suet cakes which took me by surprise so that's the picture you get tonight.
Today's drawing prompt was Stones, Rocks & Pebbles. I have a few polished stones in an Altoids tin so I got them out and drew them, then colored them with colored pencils. There aren't enough brown and gray pencils in the Prismacolor set but I'm too lazy to go back and get the big colored pencil case most of the time so I make do.
And that Oriole was back a few times today. A couple of the pictures are blurry because there's a Mourning Dove breast print on the patio door glass. Those Doves sure are dusty! I managed to get a decent shot in the afternoon. Maybe I'll go wash the Dove print off tomorrow.
After my haircut I didn't come straight home. I went past the house a block or two to TJ Maxx where I found a raft of new tops, one pair of pants, and two bed pillows. New pillows to sleep on should be great. The old one were flat in the middle so my head was stuck in a valley. Not comfortable. I wasn't prepared for the boxy silhouette of the tops I bought but I like them. I have to find out when the fall/winter stuff comes in so I can get some more tops for all those fall craft shows I'm signed up for. Hopefully there won't be an unventilated snack bar that makes our clothes smell like french fries.
And I even made time to draw a gratitude journal tonight. Only three items but three is better than skipping it altogether.
I sat down and read about 35 pages of manuscript this afternoon. I found a spot that I'd highlighted to remind me to mention something a few pages later and I found a place to do just that. I also took a telly spot and put in dialogue so it's more showy than telly now. And I even managed to reword a couple passive phrases so they're not in passive voice. I have a had time getting rid of "is" and "was" which are hallmarks of passive voice, I think. Like cda said, "Writing was so much easier when we didn't know what we were doing." Ain't it the truth?
