The hen turkey was back in the backyard this morning. I saw its reflection in the mirror while I was dressing but when I looked out once I was dressed I couldn't see her. Then I saw movement among the day lily leaves. There she was, hiding again. I tried to take her picture but it didn't turn out at all. So I picked Birds as the Sketchbook Challenge for today and drew and colored her along with another brown and orange bird that I made up.
The lilacs are starting to open! They smell so good. I tried to get enough of a closeup so you could smell them too but I don't think it worked.
There are hundreds of white violets blooming in the yard. I know that some people think they're weeds but I like them. They're beautiful. I'll try to paint them. I'll probably fail magnificently but I'm going to try.
While I was away last week the lilies of the valley and the ferns popped up. I like things that come back on their own, things I don't have to plant and tend every year.
The bleeding hearts are fixing to bloom soon too. They're sending up leaves and arching stems of buds that will turn into the little pink and white heart shaped flowers with a drop of pink below the heart. Such a pretty old-fashioned flower.
I've been keeping an eye out for an Oriole to visit the orange or grape jelly and haven't had any luck. Today this male House Finch stopped for a jelly snack. He was good to see but he's no Oriole.
Ooh, this afternoon when I was on a Zoom call with cda my phone rang. It was DM, the owner of OtherWorlds Books & More in Sturgeon Bay. He was calling to say that he needs three more copies of Spies Don't Retire!!! I dropped off three copies on May 4 and already he needs more? Hooray! I'll drive up on Sunday to refill their shelves.--Barbara

You found another way to capture that turkey. How I wish I could smell your lilacs. They are such a sweet way to welcome Spring. Your books are flying off the shelves!! What's coming down the pipeline next?
