Who Ordered The Rain?

The one day this week I had to be out walking a block or so to and from my car it decided to rain. And not a friendly little drizzle, but a real rain. It happened just when LC and OJ's Spring Concert got out. Luckily I had an umbrella with me so I could walk to the car and not get drenched. Other people were not so lucky. By the time I got home, the rain had slacked off so the rainy birdbath picture isn't quite as impressive as it would have been half an hour earlier. Oh, and the concert was wonderful. There was a lot of very enthusiastic singing, some moderately good orchestra playing, and some surprisingly competent band playing. I really enjoyed it.

The female Oriole made a return visit to the grape jelly this morning before the rain. She's not quite as skittish as she was in the beginning of her visits. The other birds can flit around her and not chase her off.

And the House Finch had a lovely orange snack. This is a male. You can tell because he's got the raspberry pink head and breast.

I've been watching and watching since Saturday but haven't seen another Hummingbird until this afternoon in the drizzle when this little female showed up and had the courtesy to sip at the port nearest me. I got three halfway decent shots of her, two on the wing and one perched. I can't believe that raindrops don't knock these tiny birds out of the air.

I decided to repaint a couple of the practice exercises in my new watercolor book. The sunflowers are a little better this time, I think, and the violets, well, I tried. I discovered if I read the directions thoroughly things tend to go better.

And I made time after supper to draw a gratitude journal page. I was most grateful to have my umbrella but I most enjoyed the concert, both the singing and the band playing.

While watching TV I finished the last few rounds of the Zauberball Crazy Sock and Kitchenered the toe closed. I'll put it downstairs with the other knitted socks to be brought up and worn next fall when it gets cold again. Although to be honest it's not warm today. Got all the way up to 47 today and it's supposed to hit 55 tomorrow. I'm wearing a long-sleeved shirt with a t-shirt under it and I had hot chocolate because my toes were too cold when I got home even though I'm wearing socks and shoes.

I didn't write anything new this afternoon. I took the scenes I wrote yesterday and put them into the big manuscript, then copied and pasted my submission for next Tuesday's Zoom critique session with cda. I'll email it off to her when I'm done blogging.

Great shot of the hummingbird. All the bird pictures today are wonderful. It's so nice to be able to share your backyard. Thanks. The concert sounded like a hit except for the rain!
