Whew!

Got a comment this morning from Aunt B who lives in NC where Hurricane Arthur spent last night.  She says they lost an awning on the deck and their french doors blew open and the carpet got soaked before they got them closed again.  Not too bad, and sunshine today, she says.  I'm so glad they're safe and relatively unscathed.  Maybe blizzards and ice storms aren't so bad after all.

Things keep blooming out in the garden.  The daisies and bee balm (the red stuff) are starting to open and the yarrow and spiderwort are going gangbusters.  It's red, white, and blue (well, purple blue) out there today.  Kind of fitting.  Not too long until there'll be blueberries to eat either.

I've been chugging along on the Oriole Wings Wrap.  I have 9 bands of the orange finished and the pattern says to make 14 of them.  That means that they'll only get longer and thicker, and it's already a challenge to get one orange band done in a day, but I will triumph.  I know I will.  It's not hard, it's just garter stitch knitted in short rows, and I love seeing the bright orange rows pile up, and who wouldn't love the dark dark dark brown strips between the bands.  I'll be proud to wear it.

Last night when I reached to close the shade over the bed I saw the crescent moon peeking out behind a tree so I grabbed my camera and went out to take its picture.  I'm thrilled that I managed to hold the camera still enough this time, the edges look almost sharp.

July 4--United States, Side Chair.  The back of the chair is shaped like a harp.  I'm certain that generations of children drew their fingers across the wooden strings pretending to play music.  It's a little ornate for a dining room chair but it might do in the study or even a lady's boudoir, if I or anyone I know even had a boudoir instead of a plain old bedroom.  Why am I wasting time looking at a chair I don't need or even particularly like?  There, that decides it, the front legs start out square and then abruptly turn into hairy legs with paw feet, just the front ones.  Too ugly and more than a little gruesome.  Moving on.

Happy 4th of July!  Are you having a picnic?  Going to the fireworks?  We're just hanging around but tomorrow we get to have a little do with some family and friends.  I'm in charge of dessert.  What to make, what to make?  Seems I'll be baking today.  Celebrate!

I loved the moon last night too. We sat out on the deck and watched fireworks from Figure Eight Island. Almost as if that storm hadn't even happened!!
