But what surprised me were the tiny buds of leaves on the lilac itself. It took a little finesse to snap this picture of the buds. The camera (on auto) was confused as to what I wanted a picture of so it tried a few different focal lengths, most of which produced blurs, but it finally managed.
The last bud on the Christmas/Easter cactus is getting ready to bloom. I wasn't confident that this one would flower but it looks like it means to open and be beautiful.
The rhubarb is continuing to grow. I love the reddish green color of the wrinkly leaves and can't wait until the stalks are big enough to start picking so I can make more rhubarb sauce for my morning yogurt. Soon!
Today's drawing is a snake and lizard, and I didn't copy a picture I just drew. I don't know why I put the lizard so close to the top of the page but I must have had a good reason.
I am much happier with today's watercolor. It's a seascape with a big cloudy sky and waves splashing on rocks in the foreground. I like the way it looks like rain in the sky. This was a whole lot easier to paint than the spooky woods scene.
I got a note from the pharmacist yesterday when I picked up a prescription that they recommend people over 65 to get a Covid booster every 6 months and it's time. So I put on a short-sleeved shirt this morning and went over and got one. I figure since I'm going to The Clearing in a couple weeks it'd be a good idea to have beefier immunity.
I didn't get much writing done today. I sent my pages for next Monday's critique in an email to cda and published the weekly short story on Substack. I'm thrilled that people are reading my stories and liking them. Then I read a few pages of the manuscript looking for places I could fix words into contractions and places where I can add more intrigue to the story. I didn't find any places for intrigue but I'm not giving up. I'll try again tomorrow.

That clump of rhubarb really is a beautiful plant -- and then it gives you that delicious fruit. I guess it's a fruit. Whatever it is it's very pretty and then also tastes good.
