It's A Three-Step Process

It takes the squirrel three steps to get into the square green feeder. I missed the leap from the crook the suet cakes hang on but I heard it. So I suppose there are actually four steps. Anyway, step one has the squirrel landing on top of the feeder.

In step two, it stretches down to grab onto the perch by the feeding ports, keeping its back feet firmly grasping the lid.

For step three, it turns around very quickly and noses up the lid so it can clamber in where the good stuff is. And that's the Wisconsin Squirrel Report for today.

This little Sparrow spent time on the feeder before the squirrel made its assault on it. I was surprised that there was only one bird. Sparrows usually travel in flocks but this one was all alone. There was another lone Sparrow on the feeder later on and I don't know if it was the same one or a different one. (You can see how sunny it was today. Sunny and cold. 16 degrees was the high.)

I took another stab at painting the hyacinth from yesterday's lesson. I like this one's flower better but I think the leaves and stem aren't right.

So I got a bigger piece of paper, taped it onto a bigger board, and painted more of them. Three more of them. The flowers aren't bad and some of the leaves look right to me. I'm still not crazy about the stems but I had fun.

At Friday Night Knitting I finished the Fiesta & White Crocheted Hat redo. I still need to weave in the ends but it's essentially finished. It's smaller than I thought it'd be so maybe it isn't an adult hat. That's okay, smaller heads than my big noggin need hats too.

I have another squirrel picture but I'm not going to put it on here because four would be too many. But it's noteworthy because it was on the suet nuggets feeder and that was in sunshine which means that the sun is moving north and more of the backyard gets sunshine. Yippee!

Writing went well today. I realized that first person point of view is limited when the first person is sick in bed with the flu so I had her hear people doing things and Iggy telling her things. I think it works. I wrote 676 words today. That's an okay number, I think.

It was nice to be back to my regular Friday activities--Women's Spirit at 1pm and Friday Night Knitting at 6pm. I missed my Zoom friends the last couple weeks.

The squirrel wins the triathlon every time. The lone sparrow doesn't have a chance.
