I looked out the window yesterday evening and realized that the light outside was orange. I thought "sunset" so I grabbed my camera and went out to investigate. In order to see the sunset I had to walk out into the middle of the street. (good thing we're not on a busy street, right?) Ahh, look at that sky. Even with the wires and the houses and the used car lot at the end of the street I think this is a grand picture.
This morning's survey of the acreage turned up the nasturtiums enjoying their life tucked into the end of a bale. The Sweet 100s are starting to make little green tomatoes.
Just after I snapped this picture of a bee balm flower a male Ruby-throated Hummingbird hovered next to it for a quick sip. He was way too fast for me to even try to take his picture but it was lovely to see his tiny buzzing self fly by.
The daisies, yarrow, and bee balm are blooming all together. The yarrow is what looks like Queen Anne's Lace but it isn't. I know this is yarrow because I have some yellow yarrow (or I did anyway) on the side of the house too.
This being retired thing is going to take some getting used to. I'm strangely unmotivated to get dressed or to tackle any of the myriad tasks I put on my list of things I want to accomplish. I'm not feeling bad about it or anything like that, I figure it'll take me days, if not weeks, to get used to the idea that all the time is mine. Maybe I'll manage to get dressed before noon next week...
July 6--Collection of B. Garrett, Seagulls in Flight. They came out of the sun, more seagulls than Laura had ever seen. She sat on the porch of the rented cottage in a chair that was so old it had probably come over on the Mayflower. The sound of all those wings made her glad that there were screens around the porch although if that old movie, The Birds, was anything to go by, screens wouldn't stop them. She realized that she gripped the arms of her chair so tightly that her fingernails made little half-moons in the soft old wood. The cries of that many gulls cast a pall of sadness over the peaceful morning.
That's where I kind of lost my way so I put the notebook aside and nodded off. It's 2:00 PM; I think I might take a shower. Maybe I'll even get dressed.

Yes, that sunset is beautiful -- but then all your pictures are beautiful too. Being retired does take some getting used to. It's good to wake up in the morning and think "I don't have to do anything today." Just taking a shower counts for an accomplishment!!!
