Feed Me

That's what this fledgling House Finch was saying. It was perched on a crook and fluttering so that the female would get a beak full of suet and fly over and feed it. The babies begging to be fed are as big as the adults but they still flutter and peep and sometimes get fed.

It poured down rain twice today. Once in the morning and once in mid-afternoon. The rain really beefed up the humidity. In between I went out to cut down a bunch of weeds in the bed on the lot line where a lot of the lilies live.  I'm not as flexible as I once was so I didn't kneel down to cut them, I bent over. My back didn't appreciate that but I got a bunch of weeds cut and pulled so it looks a little nicer. I need to go out again, probably tomorrow, and cut some branches of volunteer trees/bushes that the neighbors cut down for me this spring and the other day I noticed that there are sprouts as tall as the fence. That tree should understand that once it's cut down it should stay cut down. I suppose the only way to get it to stop would be to dig it out by the roots. That's not going to happen. Not unless I find a landscaper to do it. Hm, maybe I could get one to dig out the old honeysuckle stump and plant a new one for me too. I miss my honeysuckle.

On the retaining wall the hostas are blooming. They're not showy like the lilies but they have pretty, understated flowers. They're a pretty shade of lavender.

One of the (many) squirrels had a nice hang on the suet nuggets feeder this afternoon between the rains. Usually they've got their backs to me so I was happy to see this ones belly.

Before I went out to cut down the weeds I started this painting. I had to let the flowers dry and then add leaves, let those dry, add the sky/background, and finally add more leaves and the stems once the background was dry. I'm not sure what's going on with that glob in the upper right corner. I need to get out my paints and add some leaves to blend it in. In between I did the weeds and also spent a bunch of time reading short stories to find more to be posted on Substack one day.

Today's drawing prompt was Pens & Pencils. Those are some of the things I feel most comfortable drawing. Don't know why.

And here's today's gratitude journal page. I'm most grateful for not getting rained on. But I like the lime Jell-o too.

I made a double batch of Jell-o this morning and am happy to say it gelled enough for me to have a bowl of it right now. I am really on a Jell-o jag. This is the third big bowl I've made in about a week, well, maybe two weeks. It's so cool and citrus-y and delicious.

I'm semi-frustrated with past me because I found a handful of stories I really like that aren't finished and I'm not sure I can pick up the threads and finish them satisfactorily. I'll try. Once Christmas at Seaview is finished and published, that is. I don't have brain space for too much more different writing right now.

I got a text from BV, a woman I went to high school with, and she's going to be in town next weekend for the Packers stockholders meeting. We're going to get together for coffee on Friday. It'll be nice to sit and visit and catch up.

I love Jell-O too. Old-fashioned but so easy to make and so delicious.
