Unbelievable

This afternoon I opened the patio door to take a picture of the rainy birdbath and saw something that pulled me right out into the rain. It was a tiny yellow blossom on the tomato plant! And it's not the only one. There are two others on the back of the plant.

And the green tomato that was the size of a marble a couple weeks ago is now the size of a ping pong ball. We haven't had a killing frost yet so my little tomato plant that was so pitiful all summer long is still going strong. It's the little plant that could.

Here's the rainy birdbath. I'm showing you this not only because I like the raindrop rings in the water but you can see that I haven't put the heater in yet. Three mornings in October the water was frozen in the morning but it hasn't been cold enough for days. I'm not putting it in until I have to.

This morning I sat on the couch watching Maine Cabin Masters and cast on a washcloth using small bits of yarn that I found yesterday. All three of the little balls of yarn are turquoise, lime green, and purple in various mixes so I thought they'd like to make a washcloth together. If I run out of yarn I'll tack on some totally inappropriate colors like a yellow/pink/orange variegated. That should look absolutely ghastly.

Today's drawing is a Parachuting Penguin. It was fun to draw and looking at it in person I like it more than in the photograph.

I looked out at the birdfeeders and saw a Downy Woodpecker on the backside of the suet cakes and a Sparrow on the front side. I wish they had traded places but I liked seeing them being able to share.

I wasn't going to paint today because it was dreary and I was feeling dreary and sad but then I thought painting might make me feel happier so I got out the book and the next wildflower was Indian Paintbrush. It's red! I love red so I'm glad I decided to paint. I like the way the leaves turned out today.

The only writing work I did today was getting the next submission for cda and LL ready to send off tomorrow. I read through it and took out a few "that"s which is one of my pet words and I put in a couple sentences here and there to beef up the action and emotion in the chapters.

That is a determined little tomato plant. If it keeps on, you can have a fresh, home-grown tomato with your Thanksgiving dinner.
