A Bookish Day

Almost everything I did today was bookish. First thing, well, after getting dressed and that other personal hygiene stuff, I drove up to Sturgeon Bay to OtherWorlds Books & More to deliver nine books for their shelves. It was a quick turn-around--up, a short visit to hand over the books and get paid, then back home--door to door in just over 2 hours. And they want to schedule another book signing for September. Yes, please! BTW, driving to Door County and through Sturgeon Bay on an August Saturday is an exercise in traffic and pedestrians. Good thing I'm patient and polite.

After I got home I read through my emails and one of them was about making your setting part of your novel. It occurred to me that I assume a lot of prior knowledge about Seaview and Rose in Christmas at Seaview as it stood, so I spent most of the rest of the day rereading the critiqued chapters to add clues to characters, place, and setting. A lot of what I added were things like "my late husband" in front of "Jim" and "my husband" in front of the first mention of Iggy. I added little identifiers about the lobby of Seaview and the kitchen setting. I didn't add a lot but think what I did add enhances the read for those not familiar with the other three books.

Then I went back and looked at the blurb for the novella and at the latest comments from the Ad School pros about it and added a couple lines referring to the stakes that challenge Rose in the story. I think it might be finished.

I noticed that when a Queen Anne's Lace flower cluster is finished blooming it curls in on itself looking like a tiny green fist. It's very cool looking.

Today's drawing prompt was Bugs & Insects so I drew some bugs. I copied them from the page in the book. Sorry I'm not very original but I'm better at original words than original pictures.

Since I was so wrapped up in writing today I didn't notice any cool birds or even any dull birds so I'm including a Bluejay picture from last week just because I can.

I listened to more of My Name is Barbra on my drives today and think I might keep going. One thing I learned is she took out the second B in our first name to make it shorter. Huh. I've always liked my first name and want to be called Barbara, using all the letters. Although I do have a friend who calls me "B" which I don't mind. I can put up with "Barb" but worst of all is "Barbie." Uck. I have relatives who still call me "Barbara Sue" which I like but my Uncle Len who called me "Sarbie Boo" has blessedly passed so I don't have to endure that cutesy name anymore. Sorry for the tangent.

That Queen Anne's Lace picture is a good one. It does look like a little fist. Who knew it could be beautiful and then cute in one season. The drive to deliver the books must have been a challenge this time of year. Lots of people enjoying Door County.
